2D1N Itinerary for Gangwon-do (Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Gangneung)

Gangwon-do Province is one of the best destinations in Korea that has lots of mountains and seas and is really beautiful during Autumn. The cities in the Gangwon-do Province are like Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Gangneung, Yangyang, Sokcho, Seoraksan, Chuncheon (Nami Island!!) and many more. Gangwon-do is actually quite big. 🙂 Do you know that the three hosting cities of Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games are located in Gangwon-do? (woots woots)

I just realised that I have been to Gangwon-do for so many times! 2 weeks ago, I joined the Incheon Tourism Organization (ITO) tour with wow korea to Gangwon-do, and we covered places like Pyeongchang, Jeongseon and Gangneung. (Getting excited for Pyeongchang 2018 already!!)

DAY 1

1) Byeongbangchi Skywalk

Byeongbangchi Skywalk is located in Jeongseon. From the U-shaped observatory deck at this skywalk, you can enjoy magnificent view of Dong River that flows around Bam Island (it looks like the shape of Korean Peninsula). Also, there observatory deck is made of tempered glass floor! Overcome your fear and walk on the glass floor to enjoy this beautiful view.

You can also do zipwire at this place. Just walk about 5 minutes up hill to the zipwire place from Byeongbangchi Skywalk. You can make prior reservation if you wish to do zipwire. However, the zipwire won’t be operating on bad weather. T_T

So happened that we visited Byeongbangchi Skywalk on a bad weather day. We could not do the zipwire activity. It costs KRW 40,000 for zipwire activity. I did the zipwire activity with my friends in Spring! It was really very fun and the view was great. I will try to write a blog post about Jeongseon Zipwire soon.

2) Lunch @ Jeongseon Myeon-ok (정선면옥)

This restaurant is called the Jeongseon Noodle House – “정선면옥”. The famous dish is the 장칼국수 (KRW 6,000), erm, Long noodles?

This handmade noodles is similar to my favourite Malaysian food – panmee. The noodles are hand-made and the soup taste like soy bean (dwaenjang). We had it together with Seafood pancake (pajeon) and the seafood pancake tasted so good too!!

3) Baengnyong Cave (백룡동굴)

Baengnyong Cave is a natural limestone cave located in Pyeongchang. The cave is about 1.8km long and the cave entrance is about 10-15km above sea level, and is surrounded by rocks. I was amazed by the beautiful shapes of rocks inside the cave. The whole exploration took almost 2 hours? We had to climb up and down and crawl and get dirty, but it was really fun and exciting.

Baengnyong Cave

Baengnyong Cave

The best part of this activity is that, when we have reached the furthest point inside the cave, we were asked to sit down and the guide turned off all the lights in the cave. TOTAL DARKNESS. seriously. At that moment, I finally could feel how a blind person feels. You can’t see anything. It was really scary. I don’t want to go blind. T_T

After that, the guide asked us to close our eyes and think about our lives for 20 seconds. Let go of all your stress, worries, problems, sadness, etc and leave it in the cave. Then, think about what you have been through so far and be thankful.

All of us loved this part of the program because that 1 minute of total silence, made us think about our lives and appreciate things that we have now. I really thank God for bringing me to Korea. Thank God for the opportunity to experience Korean culture. Thank God for being with me all the time and never forsake me. 🙂

Normally, people come here in winter for skiing and snowboarding. However, when you visit Pyeongchang next time, do consider staying at Holiday Inn Resort. Alpensia Ski Jumping Stadium is also just nearby. Don’t forget to visit that place too. 🙂

DAY 2

1) Woljeongsa Temple, Odaesan

I have been to Odaesan in the Winter for hiking. Odaesan is a beautiful mountain in Pyeongchang. This trip, we visited Woljeongsa Temple, which is located in Odaesan.

“Woljeongsa Temple was founded in 643 during the reign of Queen Seondeock, the Silla Dynasty. Master Jajang met Manjusri in person at Taewha Lake in Odaesan Mountain in Sanseoseong while he was studying in China. Manjusri gave him the surplice and the sarira of the Buddha, and told him to go and find the mountain named Odae in Silla. After he came back to Silla, he reached Odaesan Mountain in Myung-joo (current Gangwon province) and built Woljeongsa Temple. He enshrined the relic of the Buddha in the middle peak of Odaesan Mountain and built Jeokmyulbogung on it.” – Info taken from Woljeongsa official website.

So they said that the popular korean drama Goblin was also filmed in Woljeongsa! Walk through the beautiful forest with lots of fir trees!
